Commercial Property: The Bend
2 min read
The Bend is a proposed four-block, mixed-use community by 3C Lakeshore Inc., a partnership between Castlepoint Numa, Continental Ventures Realty, and Cityzen Group. It is set to be an exceptional waterfront neighbourhood across a 14-acre site, connecting Toronto’s old and new communities. Contributing to the evolution of the city’s waterfront, the master plan creates a commercial hub with high-density residential buildings, street-level retail, and vibrant public spaces.
Designed by COBE Architects and architects-Alliance, this multi-phase, 14-building redevelopment features approximately 5,000 new residential units across 3.5 million sq. ft. Queens Quay and Cherry Street break the site into four distinct blocks, linked by a continuous public realm. The plan aims to create a sense of community by offering enhanced public spaces and elevated amenities.
Phase 1 of The Bend has started at the site’s most prominent intersection, the Northwest Block. This phase features four striking towers of 29, 38, 43, and 53 storeys with panoramic views of the Keating Channel and the city. The Northwest Block introduces 1,736 new residential units, 2,625m² of ground-level retail and commercial space, and three courtyards connected by pedestrian passages. Phase 1 also includes a three-storey underground parking garage offering 438 vehicle parking spaces and 1,939 bicycle spaces.
Designed with a pedestrian-first approach, CCxA's public realm plans prioritize people, connection, and flexibility to create a sense of community. This vibrant new community will feature a network of open spaces and diverse street-level offerings, including plazas, courtyards, passageways, and a waterfront promenade.
The new Débarcadère is the main arrival point for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles, located along Lake Shore Boulevard East. The Northwest Block of the Bend features a series of courtyards, connected by the East-West Passage, that allow for gathering, relaxation, and activities. Through the Southwest Block is the Woonerf Lane, a pedestrian-focused path allowing for seamless movement. The Waterfront Promenade stretches 19m on the Keating Channel, linking public spaces with the neighbourhoods. This multi-level public space offers a lively pedestrian path along retail shops on the Upper Promenade and seating on the Lower Promenade for unmatched views.
The Bend is situated at the intersection of Queens Quay East and Cherry Street, connecting Toronto’s central waterfront, the Distillery District, and Ookwemin Minising Island. With a dynamic blend of uses and seamless access to the city, The Bend will become an extraordinary place to live, connect, and explore on the waterfront.
